The pillow that arrives too full on purpose

Jet lag is not tiredness. Tiredness is fixable by sleep. Jet lag is your body politely insisting it is lunchtime while the whole dark house disagrees. In my first nights home from a trip, I need every possible advantage, and for years my pillow was not one of them. It ran warm, it went flat, and at 3am it became my enemy.
So I tried the CGK adjustable cooling pillow, which comes with an instruction most pillows do not: take some of it out.
A Pillow You Edit
It arrives vacuum-packed and expands into something absurdly full, like bread proving past its tin. This is deliberate. Inside the zip is shredded memory foam, and you remove handfuls until the loft suits your sleeping style. I took out three generous handfuls and stored them in a freezer bag, and only then did it become my pillow rather than a pillow.
One side has cool-touch fabric; the other side is plain and soft for cold-season nights. The cover is OEKO-TEX certified and zips off for the wash, which matters in a bed occasionally invaded at dawn by a three-year-old carrying breakfast crumbs of unknown origin.
Read this part before buying. It has a chemical smell out of the packet; air it a few days, as several buyers advise, and do not sleep on it night one. Some people found it stayed warm regardless, so hot sleepers hoping for magic should be sceptical of any pillow, this one included. And when you remove fill, the remaining foam can drift into a lump until you learn to give it a shake in the morning. This is a pillow that expects participation.
After the Editing
Once tuned, it holds its shape night after night, which was the thing I actually wanted. The cool side is real, especially in the first hour, which is precisely when jet lag does its best sabotage. One reviewer said it took a couple of days to get used to and then earned the time. That was my arc too.
The freezer bag of spare foam lives in the wardrobe now, a small monument to the idea that comfort sometimes needs to be negotiated rather than purchased.
